If someone heard the titles – The President’s Cup, The King’s Challenge, and The Classic – Images of grand events would arise. On the other hand, if asked what sport they were associated with sprint car racing would probably not be on the list. This week Jason Meyers took on all three notable Australian races with some highs and some lows. With bigger fields and a mix of the best American and Australian drivers contending for wins, it made for a week of fierce racing action.

First up on Wednesday night was the President’s Cup at Avalon Speedway. Meyers started the night by qualifying 27th, but then quickly bounced back during the heat races. He won Heat 3 and secured a starting position in the feature event. Lined up in the 6th starting spot, Meyers had 25 laps to get the job done. The World of Outlaws Champion, first drove by Danny Smith, then took spots away from Aussie drivers James McFadden and John Vogels. With the feature running wire-to-wire without a caution, Meyers ran out of time and could not catch the lead duo. Meyers took the 3rd place finish, while Robbie Farr took the win.

On Friday night, the two-time World of Outlaw Champion was ready to contend for the King’s Challenge at Borderline Speedway. Meyers began the night qualifying 3rd then finished 4th in his heat races. In the feature event the Californian was lined up 12th, when the green flag flew. Meyers methodically made his way through the pack like a true champion. By the time the Checkered Flag flew, Meyers had made his way up to the 4th position and was closing on the leaders.

Saturday and Sunday night were the two nights of The Classic and over 80 of the best sprint car racers in the world showed up to battle to be a part of the historic event. Meyers began his foray at the classic by qualifying 32nd. Then went on to finish 6th and 1st in heat races on night one.

On the second night of racing action, Meyers had his work cut out for him. In the heats he finished 4th and 8th, which placed him in the C-Main. In the main, the two-time champion started 7th and finished in 4thwhich transferred him to the B-Main. In the B-Main, Meyers had the #14 Fire Service Plus KPC on rails. After starting 18th, Meyers finished 6thwhich was two spots from making the feature event.

“The C and B Mains went green to checkered flag and we had a good car finally after struggling the night before,” Meyers stated.” We just needed some cautions. We came close but just dug ourselves too big of a hole to climb out of. Overall, it was a great trip to Australia this year made possible by Steve Caunt and family. Fire Service Plus, MJ Rowles, and Goldstar Transport also made this trip possible. We are looking forward to getting back home and making final preparations for Florida.”

While we in North America are anxiously waiting to see who will sweep the NFL championships, World of Outlaws Champion Jason Meyers already has his broom out and has been creating quite a dust storm at Sydney Speedway. This weekend the two-time Champion picked up his 3rd race win in the first 7 days of 2012. Before the weekend got into swing, Meyers took on a second track in Australia and took on a few of his American counter parts before continuing his winning ways.

Midweek Adventure at Archerfield Speedway

On Wednesday, the 2010 and 2011 World of Outlaw Champion was on his way to compete in the #14 Fire Service Plus KPC at Archerfield Speedway. The Californian began the night qualifying 11thand finished 2nd and 3rd in his heat races. That was enough passing points to put Meyers into the dash where he finished in the 8thposition.

Lined up in the 8thposition at the beginning of the feature, Meyers had fellow American Donny Schatz by his side at the beginning of the event. He would also battle with fellow Californian Rico Abreu in the early laps of the 35–lap contest.

In the late laps of the race, Meyers and David Muir traded positions several times, but it would be Meyers who got the edge at the end and finished 6th at Archerfield Speedway while Robert Farr went on to win the Capabala Wreckers Cup.

Back in the Swing at Sydney

When Meyers returned to Sydney Speedway on Saturday night, he encountered a few highs and lows on his way to victory. The Champion began the evening by timing in 2nd behind Lynton Jeffery. Then all went south during the heat races when Meyers flipped with a second car forcing the team to rebuild the car and sending him to the B-Main.

After winning the B-main, Meyers was lined up 21st for the main event. The two-time champion had to slice his way through the field enduring several cautions in the 35-lap A-Main. Once he made his way to the front, the Californian had to endure three green-white-checkered flag restarts to take the victory at Sydney Speedway. This is Meyers’ 3rd victory at the track going into the Scott Darley $50,000 Challenge at Sydney Speedway next weekend.

When Jason Meyers arrives in Australia next week he better be prepared for all the continent offers. For example, did you know that Australia is home to over 1500 species of spiders, the Australian Alps, or Snowy Mountains as they are also known, receive more snow than Switzerland, or the Great Barrier Reef is the largest organic construction on Earth? As the two-time World of Outlaws Champion prepares to travel “Down Under” with his family, the best drivers in Australia are preparing for a showdown with the hottest driver in America.

For the second year in a row the Californian Champion will once again join forces with Steve Caunt Racing to pilot the Fire Service Plus SCR9 in 7 events. Meyers’ tour in the SCR9 will begin at Sydney Speedway on December 26. Then once the New Year rings in, Meyers will race events at Sydney Speedway and Warnambool. Included in these events, are racing staples in Australia like the Darley Challenge and The Classic.

Meyers has beat Australia and America’s best three times on the Australian dirt. His first came in 2001 at Perth. His second victory came in 2007 at Parramatta City Raceway when he beat Kerry Madsen, Donny Schatz and Steve Kinser to the finish line. Then last year, Meyers won the first night of “The Classic” in the SCR 9 when he narrowly crossed the finish line in front of Joey Saldana.

“I am really looking forward to running in Australia this year,” explained Meyers. I am especially looking forward to taking on Sydney Speedway this season after being absent the last couple of years due to other commitments. Rod Britton and the staff at Sydney Speedway have been working hard to put a great racing program together for this upcoming season and we are looking forward to participating in some of the greatest races in Australia. I have always enjoyed the racing at Sydney Speedway and the opportunity to race for the SCR9 team owned by Steve and Dee-Ann Caunt is a great opportunity. We had a good run last season at the Classic and we are looking forward to continuing the drive towards victory this year.”

In addition to taking on Australia’s best drivers and a few American Outlaws, The Classic will qualify Meyers for the World Challenge at the 2012 Knoxville Nationals. This will give Elite Racing a chance to win not only one race Nationals weekend, but a second one as he takes on the best drivers in the World.

Some Words from the MD in his business Journey.

Mistakes, Not many, ive had some bad debts, mainly from construction, most clients if they say they will pay you friday they usually do. Generally I try to avoid the heartache. In the early days, 1984, I was focused on most things of the business, other than finacial. I thought is all i had to do was go out and sell lots of fire equipment and i didnt think about the cash flow. This bit me and i then looked at the finances closer.

Best Advice, Be honest, Live within your means and keep it simple. You dont need risky investments. Start a rainy day fund. Look after your staff, Find someone in the business doing stuff right, dont be hell bent on finding people that do wrong, then the whole ball game changes. Own tomorrow . Theres rarely a shortcut. You have to work hard and wait 20 years.

Do i Share it, With money there becomes an obligation to share it with others, I support a number of causes individually and as a company.

My idea of a Reward, I race 410 Sprintcars, this is challenging and Demanding, Im not the type of bloke that like to sit up the back and write cheques. Im still the same person with the same values I just have more responsibility now. Freedom to do business with whom you want to when you want to.

Lucky Breaks, Ive seen so many people especially from wealthy backgrounds who think they can make mistakes because they have an ATM Machine back at home backing them, Thats not a gift thats a curse.

Growing Wealth, Disipline, I know people tha earn $60,000 and save $10,000 and others that earn $250,000 and save nothing. I have a fear of debt and financial ruin. I have always poured my profits back into the business, this has turned out to be a great investment.
